Abstract : This article describes a new compensation method for real-time multimedia streaming system. It can automatically improve the user-perceived quality of video. Based on TFRC algorithm, this method takes into consideration of content-aware principles. We believe that by understanding more information during transmission, we can utilize resources more efficiently and transmit realtime multimedia more wisely. According to the client feedback, video proxy server dynamically drops or compensates MPEG-4 layers at proper time. This method enables the video proxy server to make the compensation effect maximum, while at the same time meet the constraints of client buffer and timeliness characteristic. Finally, the user-perceived video quality is improved and its fluctuation due to the unstable network bandwidth is reduced. Through simulation, we demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed method in compensating dropped data during transmission.
