AN OVERVIEW OF TECHNOLOGIES FOR E-MEETING AND E-LECTURE (WedPmSS1)

Abstract : Over the past few years, with the rapid adoption of broadband communication and advances in multimedia content capture and delivery, web-based meetings and lectures, also referred to as e-meeting and e-lecture, have become popular among businesses and academic institutions because of their cost savings and capabilities in providing self-paced education and convenient content access and retrieval. In this context, we propose two special sessions at ICME 2005 on Technologies for E-meetings and E-lectures: Technical Challenges, Solutions and Prospects, to explore state-of-the-art technologies in these domains. In line with our proposals, we are writing this tutorial paper to give a general overview of existing work which covers various topics including the capture, production, analysis, transmission and distribution of real-time or recorded meeting and lecturing content. It is our hope that, by organizing these two sessions, we can bring world-wide researchers with diverse perspectives together, and advance research in e-meeting and e-lecture in various ways.
